AusNet Gas Forecasts 2021

The CIE was commissioned by Ausnet Services to prepare forecasts of demand for its Victoria gas distribution network for 2023 to 2028. Our approach relied on separately projecting the number and type of customers and usage per customer. Projections of customer numbers combine three main drivers: changes in potential customers, changes in preferences, and the impact of investment and network expansion. We projected declining residential usage, which was driven by key trends such as energy efficiency improvements and customers switching from gas to electric appliances over time.
