James is an economist with a focus on quantitative and econometric analysis. Economics is a powerful school of thought that, when used diligently, can inform and shape better decisions. James believes that a key strength of economic analysis is developing rigorous, yet straightforward answers to complex problems. As such, a lot of the work that James undertakes is data driven. Typically, this involves using a range of techniques to extract insights from multiple information sources including large datasets and surveys.

Prior to joining the CIE, James was a Senior Analyst at the Australian Bureau of Statistics where he worked on developing price indexes for different sectors, including housing and international trade.

James hold an Honours degree in Economics from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University. His thesis researched the existence of ‘ripple effect’ patterns of house price shocks across different localities of Australian cities.
