Tingsong has over 30 years of experience in conducting economic research and policy analysis in both Australia and overseas. He has worked on a variety of areas, including environmental protection, waste management and climate policy, international trade analysis, construction and building industry and infrastructure development, agricultural economics, mining and natural resources management, research and development policy analysis and program evaluation, and economic projections.
Tingsong has strong qualitative analytical skills. He is a top economic modeller specialising in general equilibrium economic modelling. His work involves using, often with modification of, some world renowned CGE models such as G-Cubed and GTAP and Australian models such as CIE-REGIONS, MMRF, and TERM. He had built a CGE model of the Chinese economy with regional details for the analysis of China’s WTO accession. Tingsong also works with specialised commodity and/or industry models such as Global Meat Industry (GMI) model, Australian Horticultural Industry (HI) Model, CIE-Grains and CIE-Dairy models. Tingsong also has strong statistical and econometric analytical skills. He is the first to estimate a complete demand system for Australian horticulture products which formed the core of the HI model.
Tingsong enjoys working with colleagues and clients to apply economics principles and analytical techniques into investigation real world problems, including trade liberlisation, building industry regulation assessment, mining development and evaluation, agricultural economics, taxation reform, and climate change policy analysis. He is particularly skilled at transforming complex technical issues into intuitive ideas.
