Sarina has led the CIE’s health and human services economics practice since 2011. Prior to this she established and led the Australian health economics practice at PwC, after working as a senior economist at the CIE since the late 1990s. She started her professional career within the economics teams of the Office of National Assessments and Westpac Banking Corporation.
She has worked across Australia and internationally on various policy and funding issues to help prioritise and evaluate investments in health and human services programs and initiatives. Throughout her career she has brought rigour and evidenced-based advice to complex policy challenges, such as optimising the funding of disability and other social services, improving funding and outcomes for people living with rare health conditions, and improving the attractiveness of Australia as a destination for medical research.
Her expertise includes cost benefit analysis, program evaluation, and impact assessment, particularly in relation to health and medical research, and innovative service delivery models to improve outcomes for patients and communities in a financially sustainable way.
In all her work, she is passionate about engaging with stakeholders to ensure that policy and funding decisions address unmet needs and deliver value to individuals and the wider community.
