Economic modelling of a risk-based approach to syphilis testing
The CIE were commissioned by the Australian Red Cross Blood Service to undertake economic modelling of a risk-based approach to syphilis testing. This involved extensive financial analysis and scenario modelling to estimate the net economic impact of moving from universal testing for syphilis to a risk based approach (age, gender, and ‘other risk factors’ related) to help inform a future testing strategy for the Blood Service. The output of this work was an important input into the publication ‘Modelling the risk of transfusion-transmitted syphilis: a reconsideration of blood donation testing strategies’
