Recently, David Pearce participated in a workshop on the Intergenerational Report (IGR) hosted by the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.

The proceedings of this workshop have now been published by ANU press as More Than Fiscal: The Intergenerational Report, Sustainability and Public Policy in Australia. This book is available to download for free (either as the whole report, or as individual chapters) here.

All of the contributions are well worth a read.

David’s chapter (10) is on the IGR and Climate Change, where he makes a case for using the social cost of carbon (SCC) as a superb pedagogical device for working through climate issues.  Thinking through the SCC, how it is constructed and what factors determines its magnitude helps clarify a lot of issues around Australia's role in global abatement.
