Climate change

David PearceIs it happening, what does it mean, how should governments and business respond? Do we abate or do we adapt? What are the best tools to do so? We have been a significant player in climate change debates over the past 15 years. We have provided detailed analyses and critiques of a variety of policy proposals — including emissions trading, carbon taxes, white ‘efficiency’ certificates, forestry offsets and clean development mechanism credits. We also provide regular forecasts of agricultural emissions and are regularly called on to advise on the implications of particular policy settings — for Australian and overseas governments and for business.

We provide regular briefings to industry groups, covering the nature, challenges and opportunities posed by emerging climate policies such as emissions trading.

We also have a strong interest in analysing effective approaches to adaptation. In this area, we have been particularly involved in advising a variety of agricultural interests about the threat and opportunities of climate change.
